Looking to do something different this year for the holidays? Why not rent a houseboat. Here are four reasons why you should spend Christmas on a houseboat rental.

Start a New Tradition

New family traditions are always exciting. From building anticipation leading up to the trip to coming home feeling relaxed and refreshed, spending your holiday vacation on a houseboat is the way to go if you’re looking to enrich your life.

Perhaps your kids are older and all live away from home. This is the ideal opportunity to get everyone together (near or far) to spend a non-traditional holiday that is both rewarding and fun for all ages. Our houseboats sleep up to 15 people, so the more, the merrier!

It’s Relaxing

Imagine sitting on the top deck of your houseboat covered in blankets and holding a hot cup of coffee or cocoa. Your closest loved ones are surrounding you while the cool wind blows on your face and the smell of fresh lake water fills your senses. This could be what each morning looks like when you’re on a houseboat vacation.

You could fill your days with hikes and powerboat rides or simply sit back and enjoy the onboard hot tub, it’s up to you! Some people find taking the houseboat for a long cruise to go sightseeing is an adventure in itself. We believe Lake Powell and Lake Mead offer the best views of the southwest.

Create Memories

Remember Christmas five years ago? If you do the same thing year over year, it’s difficult to distinguish one year from the other. The best part about spending Christmas on a houseboat rental is the memories that will stay with you forever. Don’t be surprised if your family starts asking to do this every year. It’s quite a hard habit to break if we do say so ourselves.

Here are some ideas for creating the best memories on your upcoming houseboat trip:

  • Bring special treats that you normally don’t eat at home

  • Surprise your kids with a special gift that is related to your time on the water (ex: fishing pole, sunhat, new camera, blow up water toys, etc.)

  • Plan surprise activities while on the boat like board games, karaoke, hiking trips, or rent a personal watercraft.

  • Bring a tripod and camera to capture unique family photos while on the beach.

Get Away From It All

Sometimes the holidays can be stressful. From rushing around buying gifts to attending various holiday parties, it doesn’t seem to slow down until after the new year. And for most people, it’s the busiest time of year for businesses, so they’re working long hours.

Doesn’t it sound nice to get away from it all this year? Take a week off with your family and just cruise the wide-open lake. It doesn’t get much better than that. Take a look at our fleet at Lake Powell and Lake Mead and book your reservation today.

Best Places to Go For a Winter Houseboat Vacation https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/11/best-places-to-go-for-a-winter-houseboat-vacation

Contrary to popular belief, planning a winter houseboat vacation is more common than you think. In fact, we often have return guests who prefer visiting our marinas in the cooler months. Booking in December, January or February typically means fewer crowds, calmer waters, more hiking opportunities, better fishing, and even sun-basking.

Looking for the best place to go on your next winter houseboat vacation? We’ve come up with a few of our favorites below.

Arizona

Lake Powell

With around two million annual visitors, Lake Powell is one of the biggest and most well-known lakes in the Southwest. Although you may not be able to enjoy all the water activities you would in the summertime, there is still plenty to do at Lake Powell.

Hiking is one of the main reasons people visit this lake during the cooler months. With multiple trails surrounding the lake and optimal fishing during this time of year, you’d be surprised to see the lake so serene in December, January and February.

Check out our fleet of Lake Powell houseboats here.

Lake Havasu

Coined “Arizona’s Playground,” Lake Havasu has a serious reputation for fun. And with over 300 days of sunshine, chances of having a good time are almost always 100% guaranteed. Enjoy warm sunny days and cool evenings during the wintertime in Lake Havasu City.

California

Lake Oroville

For a change in scenery, head up to northern California to pay a visit to Lake Oroville during the cooler months. Although you probably won’t be doing any water sports this time of year, fishing is a comparable alternative. This large reservoir is best known for its bass fishing, so make sure to get your CA fishing license before you go.

For more information on renting a houseboat on Lake Oroville, visit our website.

Nevada

Lake Mead

Clocking in as the second largest lake on this list, Lake Mead is a popular houseboating destination during the cooler months because of its unique list of winter activities. From capturing breathtaking photography to scuba diving deep beneath the surface, you won’t be bored with a visit to this lake.

You can even enjoy soaking up the sun on the top deck of your houseboat as winter highs are generally in the upper 50s to low 60s with very little chance of rain. Ready to book your Lake Mead getaway? Visit our website today.

Lake Mohave

Believe it or not, Lake Mohave’s climate is actually slightly warmer than Lake Mead’s with winter highs in the mid to upper 60s. Although Lake Mohave is the smallest houseboating lake on this list, it doesn’t lack in breathtaking views. This large reservoir is famous for its Native American petroglyphs etched into the tall canyons that can be seen from the water. You’ll want to make sure to bring your camera on this winter houseboat vacation!

Impact of Lake Water Levels https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/10/impact-of-lake-water-levels

Lake water levels tend to fluctuate often due to a number of reasons. Some of these include weather occurrences, human interference, and climate change. Although lake water levels may not affect your everyday life, it’s important to know where they’re at before you head out for your lake vacation.

At Forever Houseboats, we’re here to explain the impact of lake water levels and how it may affect you.

What causes fluctuations in lake water levels?

Seasonal transition. As you know, some seasons tend to bring in more rain than others. When the wet season ends, you will notice lake water levels start to slightly drop, and vice versa.

Too much rain. Sometimes a region can be affected by a particularly heavy rainfall. With so much water dropped in such a little time, most lakes aren’t able to drain the excess water in time, therefore, lake water levels tend to be higher than normal.

Climate change. As the climate slowly changes over time, we will begin to see more extreme events (flooding, droughts) which will directly impact lake water levels.

Drought. Especially in dry regions, droughts can dramatically lower lake levels. Long-term droughts can even have an effect on the environment and animals that live there.

Human interference. Many freshwater lakes are actually used as a water resource for neighboring cities. When water is removed by humans at an astonishing rate, lake water levels are directly impacted.

What is the impact of lake water levels and what does it mean for you?

Fewer beaches. When lake water levels are higher than usual, beaches tend to disappear under the surface. This can make it harder to find space to anchor your houseboat. Be sure to ask for advice from our expert staff if you have any concerns before your trip.

Damage to the undercarriage of a boat. Too little water can actually be a hazard to your boat. If you know the lake water levels are very low, be extra careful when pulling into beaches and cruising through shallow water. We suggest having your co-captain be your extra pair of eagles eyes to spot shallow spots and possible sharp protruding rocks beneath the surface. The last thing you want is a scraped up underbelly.

While these are just some of the ways you are directly impacted by fluctuating lake water levels, there are others you should be aware of. To learn more, please contact us at 1-800-255-5561 or visit our website.

Houseboating With Toddlers: Safety Tips and More https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/09/houseboating-with-toddlers-safety-tips-and-more

Preparing for your first houseboating expedition with a toddler in tow can feel a little overwhelming. How do you keep them safe? What do you need to pack in addition to your usual items?

These are common questions to have, and luckily, we can answer them for you.

At Forever Houseboats, safety is our highest priority. Here are some tips on how to keep your toddler safe, what to bring, and how to keep them entertained on board.

What to bring:

  • Life jacket. The most important item to pack is your child’s life jacket. According to the USCG, life jackets must be Coast Guard approved, in good condition, and the appropriate size. Learn more by visiting uscgboating.org

  • Sunscreen. You’ll want to protect your little ones (and your own) skin when you’re outside all day long in the sun. Opt for higher SPF to ensure better coverage.

  • Pack-n-play. A safe place to let your little one play on board is in a pack-n-play. Bring a couple of new toys and present it to them while they’re in there so they are entertained for a bit longer.

  • Snacks. As a parent, you know that snacks are an essential element to your child’s happiness. Bring extra yummy snacks that they aren’t typically allowed to eat on a regular basis and serve it up on the houseboat. This makes the trip even more memorable and gives them something to look forward to.

  • Water. Always keep a full insulated water bottle close by just for them. Proper hydration is the key to staying healthy onboard.

  • Toys. Toddler-sized fishing poles, pool noodles, sand shovels and buckets, beach balls, and old bath toys are perfect for playing on and by the lake.

Safety tips:

  • Always have your child wear their life jacket.

  • Don’t let them out of your sight, even for just a minute.

  • Assign “watch” duties where one person in the group is responsible for keeping an eye on the little one 100% of the time.

  • Encourage multiple water breaks throughout the day.

  • Designate a “safe-space” where they can play out of harm's way.

Entertainment ideas:

  • Games. There are plenty of fun and interactive toddler-friendly games you can play with your little one, including Simon Says and hide-and-seek.

  • Books. Pack some of their favorite books they like to read over and over again. This would also be a great time to include any books about boats.

  • Coloring books. You can’t go wrong with a stack of new coloring books to explore.

  • DVDs. All of our houseboats come equipped with TVs and DVD players for onboard entertainment. Bring your child’s favorite movie and pop it in for them when it’s time to wind down.

Houseboating with toddlers is a unique experience, one that you will cherish for a long time. The smiles on their faces when the wind blows through their hair, the sound of their laugh while they splash in the water and the long cuddles when they fall asleep in your arms after a full day of fun will replay over and over in your mind as you look back on your memorable vacation.

If you have any questions about your upcoming trip, feel free to reach out to us online or by phone at 1-800-255-5561.

Summer Outfit Ideas for Your Next Houseboat Vacation https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/08/summer-outfit-ideas-for-your-next-houseboat-vacation

Packing for an upcoming lake trip? Figuring out what you need to bring (or not bring) can be tough, especially if this is your first time staying on a houseboat. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. Below are some of the best summer outfit ideas for your next houseboat vacation that will keep you stylish and comfortable.

Wide-brimmed hat and swimsuit

Be prepared to live in your swimsuit during your houseboat vacation. Whether you plan on taking a dip in the water or not, stripping down to your suit will keep you cool on those bright sunny days. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen and top off this look with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes and skin.

Sundress and flip flops

Pairing a sundress with flip flops is the perfect way to cover up and still look stylish. We personally like the flowy dresses that can easily slip off before you jump into the water. Also, speaking from experience, pack your old flip flops instead of your favorite pair so you won’t worry about getting them dirty.

T-shirt and shorts

A t-shirt and shorts are the classic male or female lake look. It provides the right amount of coverage and keeps you cool at the same time. We recommend packing your lightest colored clothes to help reflect the sun, instead of your darker colored clothes which soak in the heat.

Light jacket and tank top

We know what you’re thinking. A jacket in the middle of summer? Yes. It’s all about protecting your skin, especially during those peak sunny hours from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Throw on a light breathable jacket over a tank top and you’re covered!

Swim trunks and T-shirt

Guys, listen up. Rarely will you have to put on underwear for this trip. All you need is a handful of swim trunks and t-shirts to wear. Top off this look with a baseball hat and some flip flops and you’re ready to get your float on.

Tank top, shorts, and hiking shoes

Sometimes, you might actually want to leave the boat to take a hike. During those moments, you'll want to be properly dressed. A simple outfit that will do the trick includes a light tank top, shorts, and some hiking shoes. We prefer hiking sandals because they’re light-weight, breathable, and won’t fall off or trip you up while you’re adventuring.

In addition to clothing, it’s important to pack a few extra things to make your houseboat vacation an enjoyable one. Check out our website for additional tips from professionals at Forever Houseboats. If you have any questions before your trip, feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-255-5561 or visit us online.

The Most Scenic Arizona Lakes to Rent a Houseboat https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/07/the-most-scenic-arizona-lakes-to-rent-a-houseboat

While there are about one hundred lakes to choose from in Arizona, only four stand out to us as the top scenic Arizona lakes to rent a houseboat on. Here they are in no specific order.

Lake Powell

Lake Powell is one of the best houseboating lakes in the United States. This large, man-made reservoir is situated on the Utah/Arizona border and is known for its stunning red rock canyons and towering buttes. Visitors to this lake can choose over 90 side canyons to explore by kayak, personal watercraft, or whatever else can maneuver in tighter quarters.

Popular scenic locations include Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Glen Canyon Dam, Cathedral in the Desert, and Alstrom Point.

Lake Mead

For sparkling blue water and mountain ranges as far as the eye can see, consider taking your next houseboat vacation at Lake Mead. This giant body of water spans over 110 miles long and has 759 miles of shoreline, making it the ideal location for recreational activities. Located on the Nevada/Arizona border, Lake Mead is a short drive from Las Vegas and boasts several wilderness areas, so there’s plenty of opportunities to explore and take photos while you’re there.

Some of the most scenic stops on your Lake Mead trip include Hoover Dam, The Black Canyon Water Trail, and Lakeview Overlook.

Lake Mohave

Although Lake Mohave may be on the smaller side, it certainly shouldn’t be overlooked as a top scenic spot for houseboating. Like Lake Mead, Lake Mohave exhibits clear blue water ideal for snorkeling and swimming. Known for its multitude of coves and sandy beaches, Lake Mohave is the perfect place to get away and chill out for a few days.

Scenic stops near Lake Mohave include Katherine’s Landing, Davis Dam, Hoover Dam, and Gold Strike Hot Springs.

Lake Havasu

Drawing more than 2.5 million visitors a year, Lake Havasu is a popular spot to gaze upon Arizona scenery and enjoy a few recreational activities. For history buffs, you may also enjoy catching a glimpse of one of the state’s most unique attractions--The London Bridge--located on the east side of the lake. Spanning just 26 miles at max length, this lake is the ideal weekend houseboat getaway for friends and families.

To find the most scenic spots, we recommend The London Bridge, Copper Canyon, and Topock Gorge.

In the beginning stages of planning your houseboat adventure? Check out our marinas located on Lake Powell and Lake Mead where you can rent a houseboat, personal watercraft, kayak and more. Give us a call at 1-800-255-5561 or visit us online to learn more.

Best Lake Vacations in the Southwest https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/05/best-lake-vacations-in-the-southwest

When you imagine a vacation on a lake, you might picture yourself in the heart of the Midwest lounging on a fishing boat and enjoying the views of evergreen trees that dot the shoreline. Maybe you think about quaint and quiet lakes along the East Coast, that are known for fresh fish and foggy mornings.

But did you know that it was possible to have a lake vacation in the Southwest? There's more to the American West than deserts and cowboys.

These are the best lake vacation destinations in the Southwest:

Lake Powell

Lake Powell is a man-made lake that appears more like a system of interconnected streams than a typical body of water. While it was created to provide the region with plenty of fresh water, it has also provided Utah residents and visitors from across the globe with an amazing place to enjoy life on the water. The best way to enjoy Lake Powell to the fullest is to rent a houseboat from a marina, such as Antelope Point Marina. When you stay on a houseboat, you can enjoy everything the lake has to offer, such as water sports, daily hikes, and fishing.

Lake Mead

Lake Mead is another man-made lake in the Southwest that has the distinguished honor of being the largest body of water of its kind in the country. With shoreline along the Arizona and Nevada border, it's a popular vacation destination. Those who want to enjoy Lake Mead from the Arizona side can rent a watercraft from Temple Bar Marina, while those who may be extending their Las Vegas vacation can rent a houseboat from Callville Bay Resort and Marina. With a houseboat, you can enjoy endless adventures in the most diverse National Recreation Area in America.

These lakes are like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Not only do they provide much-needed freshwater to this dry, arid region, but they also offer people the opportunity to enjoy life on the water. From adventurous activities like jet skiing along the shore to relaxing moments such as fishing off the dock of the houseboat, there's something for everyone on these Southwestern lakes.

Learn more about how you can make the most out of your lake vacation in the Southwest by contacting Forever Houseboats today.

Why You Should Spend Money on Family Vacations https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/04/why-you-should-spend-money-on-family-vacations

Getting away for a family vacation is never easy. These trips often require a lot of advanced planning to coordinate everyone's busy schedules. Parents must start to save months, and sometimes years, in advance so that they can afford the experience. They have to consider the likes and dislikes of each individual child, as they try to find the perfect destination to enjoy together.

All of this work can be exhausting and expensive, but it's well worth the effort. These are a few reasons why you should spend the money on that next trip without a second thought:

Family Vacations Give You Time to Connect and Bond With Your Children

Most families describe their lives as busy and chaotic, and time never seems to slow down. One of the best ways to reconnect as a family unit is to escape to a new destination, and enjoy life at a slower pace while you are on vacation. This is a time to unplug, enjoy a new adventure and bond with one another.

Some of the Best Life Lessons are Learned While Traveling

Depending on the type of vacation you book, you'll find that you and your family have the opportunity to experience something new together. For example, if you book a houseboat, your children will learn the art of living life on the water. This is something that they cannot learn while watching YouTube or while sitting in a classroom.

The Memories Made on Family Vacations are Priceless

Sometimes, it's easy to predict the memorable moments of vacation. Everyone is captivated by magnificent monuments and iconic museums. But sometimes, the best memories occur from the most unexpected moments. For instance, no one is going to forget the time dad fell off the tube while cruising on the lake. In these fleeting moments, both parents and their children create lifelong memories that they will always cherish.

Houseboating is a unique vacation experience that is perfect for families of all shapes and sizes. From parents with young children to multi-generational families that want to spend some uninterrupted time together, there's a houseboat ready and waiting out there. For more information on the houseboats and marinas that we have, contact us at Forever Houseboats today.

Good Meal Ideas That Keep Well on a Houseboat https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/02/good-meal-ideas-that-keep-well-on-a-houseboat

If you are thinking about renting a houseboat for your next vacation, then you know that you will have to take into account additional logistics. From packing extra gear to make your stay more fun and extra safe to learning how to operate the houseboat, it's an experience that differs in many ways from a traditional land vacation.

Another thing that you will want to consider prior to your houseboat vacation is your meals. At Forever Houseboats, we know that meal planning is an important part of planning your next houseboat vacation.

Here are a few meal ideas you may want to try:

Spaghetti and Meatballs

Spaghetti and meatballs is a classic Italian dish that is known for its affordability and its ease. This is a simple dish that only requires three ingredients — spaghetti noodles, meatballs, and a spaghetti sauce. It doesn't take much to make a heaping pile of spaghetti that everyone on the houseboat will enjoy.

Sausage, Potatoes and Beans Tin Foil Meal

In a sense, houseboating is like camping on the water. Tin foil meals have long been a favorite among avid campers, and this one is particularly popular. Simply wrap grilled sausage, chopped potatoes and green beans in tin foil, and cook the concoction on the grill.

Hamburgers and Hot Dogs

This quintessential summer meal makes for one of the easiest and tastiest houseboat meals. You can grill hamburgers and hot dogs right on the boat, and everyone can top them with their favorite fixings. Simple sides like potato salad and corn on the cob can be brought on board.

Tacos

Tacos is another simple meal that is easy to make for a group. Cook up a couple of pounds of ground beef, add seasoning and serve to the masses. People can choose their favorite toppings, and chips plus salsa make the ideal side dish.

Traveling as a group on a houseboat? Delegate one meal to each group that is coming on board. That way, everyone takes part in the planning and gets to join in on the fun. It's not too much work for one person, and each night there will be an easy, prepared meal available.

Best Places to Rent a Houseboat in Arizona https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2019/01/best-places-to-rent-a-houseboat-in-arizona

No matter if it’s summer or winter, you can’t go wrong with a houseboat vacation. Although there are plenty of lakes in the Southwest, below are the best places to rent a houseboat in Arizona.

Lake Powell

With a max length of 186 miles and just about 2,000 miles of shoreline, Lake Powell is an ideal place to rent a houseboat in Arizona because of its sheer size alone. In fact, it’s the second largest man-made reservoir by maximum water capacity in the U.S. behind Lake Mead (which also made this list). Lake Powell is located on the border of Utah and Arizona; however, you’ll spend most of your time on the Utah side.

Houseboating on Lake Powell is popular because of its ideal conditions all year long. During the summertime, water temps are around 70 to 80 degrees, perfect for swimming and other recreational activities. There are also plenty of places to anchor and explore. A popular place to hike at Lake Powell is Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

Lake Mead

Lake Mead is another great houseboating destination in Arizona. Bordering the southern tip of Nevada, Lake Mead is 110 miles long with over 550 miles of shoreline. People head to this lake each year to enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, and the sun! Popular attractions nearby include the Historic Railroad Trail, Goldstrike Canyon, Arizona Hot Springs, plus many more paved and unpaved trails throughout Lake Mead Recreation Area. It is also known as a great bass fishing lake, hosting the U.S. Open each year.

Lake Mohave

A bit smaller than the other two lakes on this list, Lake Mohave spans 67 miles from top to bottom with over 230 miles of shoreline. Houseboaters enjoy this lake because it offers stunning canyon views and tons of sandy beaches to park and play. Lake Mohave is also known as a great place to go scuba diving and fishing because of its clearer water and multiple coves.

Guide to a Successful Holiday Houseboat Vacation https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/12/guide-to-a-successful-holiday-houseboat-vacation

Looking to spend the holidays away from home this year? A holiday houseboat vacation on Lake Mead, Lake Powell or Lake Mohave might be just the right getaway you need to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy season.

Here’s how to tackle the holidays according to our staff at Forever Houseboats:

Decorating

Christmas lights

Bring a few twinkling lights to string along your rental. It’s the perfect decoration because it provides an extra warm and cozy feeling to your space—plus the beautiful reflection off the water is an added bonus!

Wreath

A wreath adds just the right amount of holiday spirit to your houseboat. Hang it up somewhere where all crew members will catch a glimpse of it as they enter the cabin.

Mistletoe

You must not forget about the mistletoe, a traditional staple in holiday décor. Spark a bit of romance on your vacation by hanging up a few mistletoes above the doorways.

Meal Planning

Designate roles

On a houseboat vacation, it’s important to designate roles to each member of the crew to ensure there is no miscommunication and everything runs smoothly. Create a spreadsheet that includes each meal and who is cooking it. Then, rotate it between the cleaning crew so the duties are shared.

Plan your meals

Since you won’t have access to a slew of restaurants and grocery stores while floating on the lake, we highly suggest taking the time to plan out your meals. Snacks are great for a short period of time, but eventually your crew will want a decent home cooked meal, especially during the holidays. Our houseboats come with fully equipped kitchens—including an oven, fridge and stove—and a grill on the deck, so you’ll have everything you need to whip up a good dinner. Keep in mind you’ll want to pack all the spices, ingredients and condiments you want to use and bring along a couple coolers with ice (or even dry ice) to transport your perishable goods.

Create a checklist

After all meals are accounted for, take the time to create a checklist of items you’ll need to pack. Don’t forget ice, beverages, drinking water and a few extra frozen meals as back up.

Additional Tips

Gift Giving

If you’re exchanging gifts this year, we suggest leaving some of the larger items to unwrap at home. It makes for a more enjoyable experience on the boat when there’s less things to crawl over in the already tight quarters.

Engage in Activities

One of the most important things to keep in mind when planning a successful holiday houseboat vacation is to make it fun! Bring along board games, cards and a karaoke machine to really crank up the good times. After all, spending time with your loved ones is what matters most!

This winter, start a new family tradition by spending the holidays on the water. At Forever Houseboats, we offer a wide variety of rentals on some of the best houseboating lakes in the southwest. Take a look at our fleet and start planning your vacation before the new year begins. Contact us today to make your reservation.

4 Best Winter Houseboating Destinations https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/11/4-best-winter-houseboating-destinations

If you’re looking for a winter getaway that doesn’t include packing heaps of snow gear, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are four of the best winter houseboating destinations for those looking to enjoy sunshine and good times.

1. Lake Powell

With over 2 million annual visitors, Lake Powell tops our list of best winter houseboating destinations. The simple reason is because once the weather cools down, certain activities become more enjoyable. Take hiking for instance. Would you rather hike in 100-degree weather or in cooler temps? We suggest the latter. While visiting the area, make sure to plan a visit to Antelope Canyon and Rainbow Bridge, two of the most popular attractions in southern Utah.

2. Lake Mead

Lake Mead, the largest man-made reservoir in the world, spans over 247 square miles and contains over 26 million acres of water. That’s a lot of room for a houseboat excursion. Enjoy tranquil waters and large open spaces to satisfy your need for an escape from everyday life.

Can you think of anything that pairs well with a peaceful day on the lake? You guessed it: fishing. Lake Mead is a prime location for anglers, specifically those who are looking to catch their fair share of striped bass. It doesn’t matter what season you visit Lake Mead because the fish are always biting.

3. Lake Oroville

North of Sacramento, Lake Oroville consists of 167 miles of forested shoreline, which is a nice change of scenery for the desert dwellers. Wintertime temps aren’t too bad either, with an average high of 59 degrees and sunny skies, you won’t freeze your tail off at this houseboating destination. Like others, Lake Oroville is another leading spot for bass fishing. Several fishing tournaments are held here every year.

4. Lake Mohave

One of the smaller lakes on this list, Lake Mohave stretches about 67 miles dividing Nevada and Arizona from Hoover Dam to Davis Dam. This lake is one of our favorites because of its spectacular views. Boaters can enjoy cruising through narrow canyon walls and finding hidden coves to explore. Did we mention that Lake Mohave is also known as a hot spot for scuba diving? Take an adventure under water and maybe even find yourself some buried treasure!

Summer is over but houseboating season isn’t. Take a look at our marinas located on each of the lakes mentioned above. For more information about best winter houseboating destinations near you, give us a call at 1-800-255-5561 or visit us online at foreverhouseboats.com.

Which Southwestern Lakes are Best for Fishing from your Houseboat https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/08/which-southwestern-lakes-are-best-for-fishing-from-your-houseboat

Look no further than the Southwest for some of the best fishing in the states. Lake Powell, Lake Mead and Lake Mohave each have their own unique qualities that attract anglers near and far. Find out why you should pack your tackle box and rent a houseboat on one of the lakes below.

Lake Powell

Recognized as one of the top bass fisheries in America, Lake Powell is a prime fishing location. If you’re planning a boating trip to Lake Powell soon, we’ve narrowed down the top places to cast your reel:

  • Good Hope Bay: You’ll find smallmouth and largemouth bass as well as walleye and striped bass here. The bay is large so you’ll have no trouble finding a spot in your Lake Powell boat rental.
  • Halls Creek/Bullfrog Creek: This is another great location for largemouth and smallmouth bass because of the heavy plankton growth thanks to the two creeks running into the lake. Some say this area has the biggest bass population in Lake Powell.
  • Upper San Juan River: If smallmouth bass is what you’re after, this is the place for you. In 1984, the Upper San Juan Arm of Lake Powell was one of the first places stocked with smallmouth bass. Still to this does, it’s a wealthy fishing ground for anglers.

Pro tip: The best times to fish on Lake Powell are from late June to mid-October. Within that period, July and August are considered the best months.

Lake Mead

Another great lake to go bass fishing, Lake Mead stretches over 290 square miles – giving fishermen plenty of space to find their hot spot. You can seek out your own favorite spot too when you cruise to different parts of the lake on your houseboat.

Fish that call Lake Mead their home include: Largemouth and striped bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill. Your best chance at catching these fish are in the fall, specifically July through December. Be aware of catch limits if you’re fishing on the Nevada side or the Arizona side of the lake.

Lake Mohave

Lake Mohave is a smaller, more intimate lake compared to Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Anglers enjoy this lake because it has several coves where bass tend to frequent. Lake Mohave is also known for its population of stripers, which swim in schools (usually 20 feet deep or deeper), and are easy to catch if you follow them.

Like Lake Mead, you can expect to catch striped bass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish at Lake Mohave. You may even catch some rainbow trout here!

Pro tip: Hang out around the upper lake area, near where there is a current from the river coming out of the Hoover Dam. This area of the lake is cooler and offers a more consistent environment that fish love.

Don’t forget to research and purchase the proper fishing license for each state you plan to fish in.

Now that you’ve learned more about fishing on these Southwestern lakes, it’s time to start planning your houseboat vacation. Give Forever Houseboats a call at 1-800-255-5561 to learn more or visit us online to book your reservation at Lake Powell, Lake Mead, or Lake Mohave.

Why You Should Spend Labor Day at Lake Powell https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/08/why-you-should-spend-labor-day-at-lake-powell If you didn’t spend enough time by the water this summer, it’s not too late to have a little fun in the sun this Labor Day. In fact, we believe that Lake Powell is the best place to celebrate your last weekend of the season. From relaxing on the beach to wakeboarding behind a speedboat, Lake Powell has just what you need to wrap up the perfect summer.

Still need a little more coaxing? At Forever Houseboats, we’ve come up with 3 reasons why you should spend Labor Day at Lake Powell.

Reason #1: You can make lots of new friends!

Because holiday weekends are generally busier on the lake, you’ll likely have plenty of company to mingle with on Labor Day weekend. Luckily, that means many opportunities for you and your family to make new friends and enjoy group activities on the water.

Reason #2: The views are spectacular, especially at sunset.

Due to the unique, spectacular geography of Lake Powell, much of the landscape and scenery can only be seen from the water. Prepare to be awe-struck by the vast canyons and red glistening walls as you cruise for miles under the warm sun. But the gorgeous scenery doesn’t end there. Once the sun sets, a beautiful display of pink and purple skies reflect off the water consuming your sight. Then at night, of course, you have a sky full of stars to gaze at as you enjoy a peaceful evening on deck.

Reason #3: It’s the perfect excuse to get away from the day-to-day grind.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s far too easy to forget to slow down and simply enjoy life. When you step aboard one of our Forever Houseboats on Lake Powell, you can leave conference calls and deadlines on the shore behind you. But you won’t have to worry about leaving the comforts of home behind. Every one of our houseboats comes with a fully equipped kitchen and entertainment options, including television with a DVD player and CD stereo. At Forever Houseboats, our fleet offers just what you need to relax and enjoy your houseboat vacation.

Finish the summer on a high note by making your houseboat reservation at Antelope Point Marina. Give us a call at 1-800-255-5561 or visit our website to learn more.

How to Find the Perfect Place to Anchor Your Lake Mead Houseboat Rental https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/07/how-to-find-the-perfect-place-to-anchor-your-lake-mead-houseboat-rental

Cruising and navigating the open lake is only part of the full houseboating experience. When the sun sinks low and evening sets in, houseboat operators must find a good spot to anchor or stake their ship. Once an ideal shoreline is established, you can set up camp for the night (or day).

Here at Forever Houseboats, we’ve drawn up a few steps to help you find the perfect place to anchor your Lake Mead houseboat rental.

Step 1. Observe from a distance

Does the bank have plenty of sand? Will this beach provide enough shade and protection from prevailing winds? These are two common questions to ask yourself before settling on the perfect place to anchor your Lake Mead houseboat.

Step 2. Send out the scouts

If you’ve rented a small watercraft, have someone go ahead of the houseboat and scout out the beach in question. If they have determined the beach is suitable (ex: not too shallow), they’ll be able to help guide the vessel into position.

Step 3. Check below the surface

As you cruise up to a sandy bank, pay close attention to the water directly in front, underneath and to the sides of your boat. Be careful not to park too close to any large rocks.

Step 4. Park near deep water

All of our houseboats come with a built-in water slide located on the back of the vessel. Before you beach your houseboat, it’s important to check behind the boat to make sure the water is deep enough to jump in and there are no large rocks in sight.

Step 5. Stay clear of other boats

This is especially true when there’s a fair amount of wind present. Even if your houseboat is tied down, there’s still a chance it could drift several feet to the left or right. With that in mind, give yourself plenty of room when anchoring near other houseboats and watercrafts.

If you’re unfamiliar with the lake (or are simply a houseboat newbie), don’t hesitate to ask the marina staff to point out some ideal places on a map to beach your boat. After all, it never hurts to have peace of mind as you cruise along the vast surface of Lake Mead.

How Hard is it to Drive a Houseboat? Answers from an Expert https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/07/how-hard-is-it-to-drive-a-houseboat-answers-from-an-expert

For kids, a houseboat vacation is the adventure of a lifetime. Sleeping in a house that is floating each night is quite literally a dream come true, and there's nothing better than waking up only to realize they have an entire day filled with outdoor fun ahead. If you are a parent who is planning a houseboat vacation with your kids this summer, here are a few tips to help make your vacation safe and enjoyable.

Bring Life Jackets for Every Child

The houseboat that you rent will be equipped with enough life jackets for each individual who is on board. However, it is recommended that you bring life jackets for each child so that you can choose a life saving device that is ideal for their age, height and weight. Children should wear life jackets at all times when they are on board the houseboat.

Consider the Security Features of the Houseboat Rental

Every houseboat rental that we offer is designed to provide families with a safe and fun vacation, but you may want to look for specific features that will allow you to feel more comfortable and confident with young children board. Some security features that parents often request include:

  • Guard railings around the perimeter of the boat.
  • Sliding doors that lock from the interior.
  • Latching gates on the deck of the boat.

Pack Activities and Games

Young children may never grow tired of playing in the water or docking at the marina in order to go for a hike. However, there are always those moments where everyone needs to wind down and have time to relax on the boat. To keep your kids occupied, pack some of their favorite board games, a deck of cards, coloring books and a few of their most treasured toys.

At Forever Houseboats, we know that this is a vacation that is perfect for people of all ages. With houseboat rentals at some of the most magnificent marinas around the country, we specialize in providing families with peaceful escapes from the realities of daily life. For more information on the houseboat rentals that will be perfect for your family-friendly vacation, contact us today.

10 Things You Would Never Expect On a Lake Mead Vacation https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/06/10-things-you-would-never-expect-on-a-lake-mead-vacation With over 550 miles of pristine shoreline and soaring red rock cliffs, Lake Mead has so many fun recreational opportunities. Many families who go on a vacation to Lake Mead are surprised by its “hidden gem” qualities. Here are some things you’d never expect on a Lake Mead vacation.

  1. The beaches are surprisingly rocky and then precariously smooth all at once. You’ll need water shoes if you plan to walk safely in the water and on the beach. The terrain is incredibly rocky in some areas, and some guests have said they can sink into the sand up to their shins in other areas.

  1. The lake is hidden in plain sight. When driving to Lake Mead from Las Vegas, many passersby do a double take to confirm that there is in fact a lake in the distance. It’s hard to imagine a large body of water surrounded by so much desert. Look for the sun’s glare reflecting off the water!

  1. The fish are friendly! Don’t be surprised to find friendly little fish gathering in large groups near the marina waiting for you to toss them some food. Consider it a warm welcome from the locals.

  1. Jet skis and boats should steer clear of shallow shore. Because many families are swimming and playing in the shallow waters near the beach, jet skis and boats are asked to avoid those areas. Make sure you brush up on boating rules before you go, so you’re not surprised when you reach Lake Mead.

  1. There are gorgeous hiking opportunities. While you’re probably coming for some fun on the water, you can lower your anchor and follow one of the hiking trails for a daytime activity on dry land. The friendly rangers will even give you tips on how to see some wildlife.

  1. You can sleep on the water! When you rent a houseboat from Callville Bay, you can have even more fun on the water for an extended stay.

  1. It’s near Hoover Dam. Sometimes people forget that Lake Mead is so close to Hoover Dam. It’s a great place to stop on your way to or home from your Lake Mead vacation.

  1. The drive to Callville Bay is just as pretty as the lake. With stunning views of the jagged mountains surrounding the water, you’ll enjoy the drive to the marina at Callville Bay just as much as the fun on the water.

  1. The water is warm. Those who vacation at the lake a lot are sometimes surprised by how warm the water is at Lake Mead. Jump on in!

  1. It’s a top destination for scuba diving. Lake Mead is often highlighted as one of the top freshwater lakes in the world for scuba diving. You’ll find numerous underwater caves and canyons with an extensive white gypsum reef area.

At Forever Houseboats, we specialize in providing families with fun and affordable houseboat vacation packages that are customized to fit their needs. We have incredible houseboats, jet skis and small boats available to rent at our Callville Bay marina. Contact us to find out more and to start planning your Lake Mead vacation.

4 Small But Important Things To Know About Lake Mohave Houseboat Rentals https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/06/4-small-but-important-things-to-know-about-lake-mohave-houseboat-rentals

The serene waters of Lake Mohave are amid the same national park area as Lake Mead, but this gem has its own mysterious appeal and unique beauty. These clear blue waters and the ancient Indian petroglyphs along the shoreline draw in visitors from around the globe, and there’s no better way to navigate the lake and see it all than with a houseboat rental. However, before you book your trip launching from Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina, we offer you four small yet important tips for a successful Bon Voyage.

1.   Age Requirements for Houseboat Rentals

At Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina, the minimum age to rent a houseboat is 21 years old. It’s important to keep in mind that only individuals whose names are on the rental agreement can operate the boat. Any accidents or injuries that occur without a licensed and authorized operator will not be covered under insurance policies whether they are through the rental agency or private insurance.

2.   Make Advanced Reservations

Getting the houseboat you want and when you want it requires advanced reservations. For Lake Mohave, particularly during peak seasons like spring and summer, it’s best to book a rental 9-12 months in advance. If dates are flexible, about six months is adequate. However, for last minute bookings, contact Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina to ask about last minute specials and availability.

3.   Additional Costs in Renting a Houseboat

Renting a houseboat is similar to renting a car in that you need to return the vessel with a full gas tank or pay the difference upon returning it to do so. Keep in mind that tooling around Lake Mohave on a houseboat can run from $50-$150 per day depending on how far you travel. A deposit will be required when picking up the houseboat, and this fee will be deducted if the craft is returned in good condition and filled with fuel. Also, there are quite a few liabilities when operating any sea vessel, so you’ll have to sign a waiver that makes you responsible for damage to the craft and any onboard passengers.

4.   No Experience Boating, No Problem on Lake Mohave

Before you take your journey,  you will have the option to be guided by a pro concerning how to operate the vessel. Navigating a houseboat is very different from operating a small boat and other watercraft, but newcomers are always welcome.

What You Need To Know About A Houseboat Vacation with Kids https://www.foreveradventures.com/blog/2018/06/what-you-need-to-know-about-a-houseboat-vacation-with-kids
