How to Prepare a Thanksgiving Meal on a Houseboat

Spending your Thanksgiving holiday on a houseboat may sound a bit odd, but don’t knock it before you try it! If you’re looking to do something a little different this year, spending Turkey Day on the lake might just be exactly what you’re looking for. Because all our Forever Houseboats include a full kitchen, cooking up your feast on a boat isn’t as hard as you might think.

Stock up before you set out

Preparation is key. If you don’t have a plan or a shopping list before you hit the store, you’re likely to forget something. Take careful consideration about the menu, as well as all the spices you plan to use. If you end up running out of butter on your houseboat, you’re out of luck. Make it a point to overstock. You’ll have a refrigerator on board to store your perishable items, so you won’t have to worry about throwing them out if they go unused.

Leave it to us

Forget the paper plates and plastic forks. At Forever Houseboats, we’ve got all the washable plates and utensils you’ll need on deck to serve your party of up to 12 people. (Tip: You can host more guests when the boat isn’t in motion.) Our houseboats come stocked with steak knives, dinner knives, forks, spoons, dinner plates, glasses, cups, and more. Your boat will also include a full-size range and oven along with the gass grill outside on the front deck! (Deep fryers are not allowed on houseboats.)

Make it a team effort

Before you begin your travels to the lake, assign “jobs” to individuals or couples who will be attending. It would also be wise to have each attendee bring certain ingredients or prepare a dish ahead of time (something that will keep well in the refrigerator for a few days). If some guests can’t bring a dish, assign them “clean up” duty so you won’t be stuck washing all the pots and pans at the end of the night. If everyone pitches in, there will be less stress on the you and your family.

At the end of the day, sharing our gratitude with loved ones is what Thanksgiving is all about. Make this year a unique experience by spending time with your loved ones on a Forever Houseboat. Give us a call or visit online to start your reservation today!
