What Should You Bring On Your Houseboat Vacation This Summer?

If you’re trying to figure out what to pack on your houseboat vacation, we are here to help. At Forever Houseboats, we believe that houseboating is all about the simple life. When it comes to packing, less truly is more. Here’s our houseboat packing checklist:

Houseboating Personal Items

●      Clothing – While you’ll probably spend a lot of your time in your swimsuit, shorts, and tank tops, don't forget a long sleeve shirt, which can provide sun protection when you are out of the water. You may also want to throw in a light jacket or sweatshirt for cooler evenings.
●      Shoes – For your time on the boat and beach, sandals or water shoes are great. If you plan on hiking or exploring, however, you are going to want comfortable, supportive shoes.
●      Toiletries – Depending on your group, it may make sense to bring shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a few other items to share. Ten people all bringing their own shampoo makes for a cluttered bathroom.
●      Beach Towels – Our houseboats include towels, but keep things simple by reserving these for showers. When packing beach towels, you’ll probably want a new one for every 3-4 days you’ll be on the water.
Houseboating Safety Items
●      Sunscreen – Sunburns are preventable. Bring more sunscreen than you think you will need and be sure to use it as directed.
●      Aloe Vera/After Sun Lotion – These can minimize the pain of minor sunburns if they do occur.
●      First Aid Kit – We equip all of our houseboats with a basic first aid kit, but you know the people in your party best. Consider bringing your own first aid kit, packed with everything you think you might need in case of an emergency, including necessary medications.
●      Ski Vests – If you plan on waterskiing, bring your own vest in the proper size or purchase one from the marina store before heading out on the water.
Houseboating Extras
●      Digital Camera & Charger – You’ll be surrounded by beautiful landscapes and making great memories. Why not take a few photos along the way?
●      Binoculars – Many of the best houseboat lakes in the southwest attract a diversity of desert wildlife. Binoculars can help you get a close-up view of any animals you might spot.
●      Games – Cards, puzzles, and board games are a fun way to relax after a day in the sun. Choose small, portable options or a travel edition of your favorite classic game.

Your packing checklist will vary based on the people in your group,  which lake you’re headed to, and when you’ll be going. For more houseboating tips, check out our Houseboating 101 section. Contact us today to reserve your houseboat.
