COVID-19: LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES WE'RE TAKING TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.

Summer Safety On The Lake

Year-round safety is a top priority for us at Forever Houseboats. That is why all houseboat models in our Forever Fleet come equipped with onboard safety systems and equipment and why we provide a comprehensive overview for you before you embark on your houseboat adventure. But with the popular summer season approaching, we wanted to provide our recommendations to help you prepare for your exciting houseboat adventure.

Here are some things you should know:

On-Board Safety Systems and Equipment

Your Forever Houseboat has several passive safety systems that will notify you of any potentially dangerous situations. For example, all houseboats have several smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as an automatic engine compartment fire suppression system. In the unlikely event that any of these alarms or indicators should activate, we recommend notifying the marina immediately using the marine band radio on your boat. Use Channel 16, which is monitored by local authorities, as well as all marinas.

Personal Safety

Your houseboat will include a basic first aid kit, but if you or anyone in your party has specific medical concerns, you may want to pack a supplemental first aid kit that includes the following:

●      Extra bandages – Both adhesive and elastic bandages are a good idea. If there are kids in your party, you might also want to include a box of character themed adhesive bandages to help take the sting out of any scrapes or cuts.
●      Medications - Anyone in your group who takes medication regularly should bring a few extra doses. For kids, bring children’s medicine such as low dose fever reducers or allergy medicine. For safety’s sake, consider keeping all medications in a locking travel bag.
●      Single-use cold packs – These are easy to take along on a hike or stow on board to help reduce swelling in the event of a minor injury, such as a twisted ankle.

Sun Safety

Sunburn and dehydration are two of the most common summer injuries people experience on the lake. But they are both entirely preventable.

●      Sunscreen, hats, and UV blocking clothing – Pack more sunscreen than you think you need. All sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours and immediately after going swimming.
●      Water and Other Drinks - Bring plenty of water and be sure to drink more than you usually would. Staying hydrated in any circumstance is essential when vacationing on the lake in the summer.

Hiking Safety

At Forever Houseboats, we have marinas in some of America's most scenic national parks and recreation areas. If you plan on hiking or exploring the area the lake, here are few additional items you might want to pack.

●      Sturdy shoes – Sandals and flip-flops are great for the boat but a bad idea on the hiking trail.
●      Hydration pack – Backpacks with a built-in water bladder can help you stay hydrated in the hot summer sun.
●      Hiking poles – If you end up hiking through unstable or muddy terrain, poles are really helpful.

At Forever Houseboats, we are committed to helping our guests have a fun and safe time on the water. For more information, you can check out our safe boating videos and resources. To make a reservation, contact us today.
