Everyone knows that summer is peak houseboat season. The sun is warm, the water is cool, and the days are long. And, while there are lots of reasons folks choose to hit the lake during the height of summer, we’d like to let you in on a little secret: late spring and late summer are actually two of the best times to rent a houseboat. Here’s why:
Amazing Weather
There is no question that houseboating in summer is a great way to beat the heat. But if you’ve got some flexibility in your vacation schedule, the weather is just as nice, if not nicer, in the months of May and September.
Depending on the lake, the water may still be a bit brisk in spring, but it is invigorating and refreshing, nonetheless. In late summer, the water is usually warm enough for swimming and waterskiing without a wetsuit, so there is plenty of opportunity for all the water fun you desire.
If swimming isn’t your thing, and you would rather fish or relax on your houseboat’s sun deck, late spring and late summer temperatures are perfect for these activities. You will likely enjoy hiking and sightseeing more during these slightly off-season times, as well, because it won’t be quite as hot.
Less Crowded Lakes
Our marinas at Forever Houseboats operate on some of the largest and most popular houseboat lakes in the country, including Lake Powell, Lake Mead, and Lake Mohave. In the middle of the summer, these lakes are bustling with vacationers every day of the week. During the late spring and late summer months, however, there are fewer people on the lake. You can easily find quiet, private places to anchor your houseboat, even along some of the most popular beaches and coves.
Greater Houseboat Availability
Houseboating is becoming an increasingly popular summer vacation for people of all ages. As a result, summer houseboat availability may be limited unless you book well in advance. Here at Forever Houseboats, we have been accepting reservations for Summer 2017 since late 2016. Weekends and holidays fill up quickly. But, not to worry. Since late spring and late summer are both slightly off-peak, you’ll have a better chance of getting exactly what you want during those times.
