Packing For Spring Weather On The Water

Spring brings the promise of longer days, warmer temperatures, and sometimes, unpredictable weather. When you are planning a houseboat vacation in the spring, you need to be prepared for a range of possibilities. At Forever Houseboats, we provide houseboat rentals all year long on some of our country’s most beautiful waterways. With years of experience under our belt, we know just what you’ll need to pack to have a great time on the water, no matter what spring has in store.

Clothing

As winter fades away, the mild temperatures in the American Southwest give way to warmer days, with highs hitting in the 60s and 70s. Early mornings tend to have a slight chill in the air that dissipates quickly as the sun rises. Things start to cool down in the early afternoon and then drop a bit more after sundown.

Pack clothes that allow you to dress in light layers, so you can be comfortable all day long. Hooded sweatshirts are great for chilly evenings. The temperatures on the lake can still dip close to freezing overnight, however, so you’ll want a warm jacket too - especially if you hope to do any stargazing or campfire s’mores on the beach after the sun goes down.

Sun Protection

Abundant sunshine reflecting off the water makes it possible to get sunburned easily on the lake, even on cooler days. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that you don’t need sun protection if it’s chilly enough to wear a jacket. Bring ample sunscreen, and don’t forget your hat and sunglasses.

Rain Protection

Spring showers provide life-giving water to the deserts of the American Southwest. While the days are mostly sunny, you might just might get caught in the rain on a houseboat in the spring. Just in case, you will want to pack accordingly. A rain jacket and waterproof footwear will keep you dry outside the houseboat cabin.

Entertainment

If you would prefer to watch the rain pass from the dry interior of the houseboat, bring some entertainment. A new book is always a good idea, and a deck of cards is easy to pack and can be used for any number of games. You may also want to bring along a few of your favorite DVDs since all houseboats in our Forever Fleet come equipped with a TV and DVD player.

Spring on the lake provides the best of both worlds. The lake is not crowded but the days are usually warm and sunny. It’s a wonderful time for a houseboat vacation. Ready to book your spring houseboat getaway? Contact us today at Forever Houseboats.
