In the southwestern United States, houseboating is a year-round activity. At Forever Houseboats, we offer houseboat rentals on some of the nation’s most beautiful scenic waterways all year long. From the warm, sunny days of summer to the quiet stillness of the lake in winter, each season on a houseboat has an appeal all its own
Winter
Thanks to mild winter temperatures and low humidity, Lake Powell, Lake Mead, and Lake Mohave all offer fantastic winter houseboating. The cooler temperatures usually mean that basic swimming is off the table, but certain activities, like fishing and scuba diving, are actually a bit better in the cold water. Many fish come closer to the surface and the cooler water offers increased visibility at some of the best diving spots.
Spring
As the snow pack begins to melt in the spring, the water levels in the lakes begin to rise, and while the air may still be on the cooler side, the temperatures do increase; that means it’s a great time to enjoy a lake that is still not overly populated. Spring is also a great time for fishing as the fish are spawning this time of year. The cooler air also invites spring hiking, but it’s important to be aware if the area where you hike as it may be prone to flash flooding with spring rains occasionally falling in both Glen Canyon and Lake Mead National Recreation Areas.
Summer
Summer is peak season for houseboating at Lake Powell, Lake Mead, and Lake Mohave. Daily temperatures soar which makes swimming, kayaking, and a range of other water sports summer favorites. Due to popularity, summer houseboats rental availability may be limited, especially around any holidays like the 4th of July. If you’re interested in houseboating during summer, you should book as far in advance as possible.
Fall
Once you’ve passed Labor Day, the summer crowds have thinned out. But the warm temperatures stick around awhile longer at Lake Mohave, Lake Mead, and Lake Powell. That’s good news if you have some flexibility in your vacation schedule. Thanks to warm water temperatures, swimming and other water activities are still enjoyable. Additionally, fall is ideal hiking and mountain biking season in the southwest. The slightly cooler temperatures reduce the risk of heat stroke or exhaustion, although it is still important to ensure you have enough water and stay hydrated.
Regardless of the season, houseboating is a popular activity so you want to be sure to plan ahead. At Forever Houseboats, our fleet includes boats ideal for everything from weekend getaways to family reunions, no matter the season.
