Stunning Winter Scenery

Lake Powell is quiet and serene during the winter months. With far fewer visitors than in the summer, the lake’s surface remains smooth and undisturbed. Although Lake Powell is beautiful year-round, the winter sunsets dazzle with deep purples and reds. The stunning red cliffs reflect on the lake and the chilly night air is teeming with stars. In fact, the night sky is so clear, you can even see the Milky Way.

Enjoyable Winter Activities

Fishing: The cooler water temperatures make for great fishing on Lake Powell during the winter. Striped bass, crappie, and walleye will keep biting all winter. You may need to head into some of the canyons for the best fishing, but the cooler water will bring plenty fish up from deeper below.

Hiking: The mild winter weather at Lake Powell is perfect for hiking. It is not so cold that you need snow gear and not so hot that you are at risk for heat exhaustion. Although there are no maintained trails within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, there are several stunning day hikes throughout the park and around Lake Powell.
