Stargazing From Your Boat House Rental

boat house rentalLake Powell is an excellent stargazing destination and from a boat house rental on the lake, there is little light pollution to blot out the beauty of the night sky. You can see the moon in its phases, meteor showers, constellations, and planets.

Here are some things to look out for in the July night sky:

Moon

On July 4th, our nation’s Independence Day, there will be a new moon. This is a great time to marvel at the heavens as even the moon’s light won’t interfere with your ability to see the starry sky. On July 19th, there will be a full moon, which will begin to rise at 8:28 pm and reflect off the lake in a magical glow. Also of note, on July 29th, there will be an occultation of Aldebran as the moon passes in front of this bright star.

Meteor Shower

If you’re looking for an especially spectacular celestial event, you can’t beat an evening watching a meteor shower on your Lake Powell boat house rental. Late July is the time to see the Delta Aquarids, they will peak around July 27-July 30 and can reach an hourly rate of 15-20 per hour. The best time to see this shower is an hour or two before dawn.

Constellations/Planets

Many constellations are also visible from a boat house rental on Lake Powell, including Scorpius and Ara. Visit this constellation site to find out if your favorite constellation will be visible on your trip.

Venus will be visible in July as will the planet Jupiter. With a telescope, you may be able to see Jupiter’s four moons.
