When renting a houseboat on Lake Powell, it’s helpful to know the weather and water temperatures throughout the year. Some like it hot in the Arizona summer and some like it cold, or at least cooler. Here’s a guide to weather and water temperatures on the lake to help you plan for your houseboat vacation.
Spring
We recommend renting a houseboat in the spring if you like a quieter lake and a temperate climate. Even in early April, you might find the weather surprisingly warm. It’s also a great time if you like fishing as the bass begin to spawn when the weather passes the 60° threshold. You can get a jump on the competition by finding out where their nesting spots are, just watch for the male bass hang outs.
Summer
This is the peak season at Lake Powell where average temperatures hover in the 90s (or 32 to 37 degrees Celsius), but you can beat the heat during with a refreshing swim. The average water temperature from June through August is in the 70s and 80s (21° - 26° Celsius), the perfect temperature for anyone who loves a dip at just the right temperature.
Fall
This is a great time to visit Lake Powell; in fact, some consider September and October ideal months to enjoy the scenery and fun on the lake. The air temperature is milder but the water is still warm (water temperature averages around 76°F or 24°C in September).
Winter
Believe it or not, winter is just beautiful and breathtaking on Lake Powell. If you’re truly looking to be one with nature, this is the time of year for houseboating. The lake is a lot less crowded, and the water is as smooth as glass. And, while the temperatures are on the cooler side (both water and air temps are around 45°-47°F or 7°-8°C), winter provides the perfect opportunity for some great winter fishing from your well-appointed Forever Houseboat.
